Welcome to the Office of Continuing Education at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB Health). Education is a component of the core purpose of UTMB. In the 120 year history of the institution, thousands of physicians have been trained. These physicians probably comprise the largest group of health care providers in Texas. The Office of Continuing Education mission and purpose is to maintain the availability of lifelong learning to these and other physicians in our community (which is defined in global terms). As a health science center we are innovative in the development and application of our educational programs, and see this as part of our mission.
The UTMB Office of Continuing Education is committed to the development of high quality educational activities for physicians and other health care providers, which promote the continued improvement of clinical, teaching, and research skills as part of a lifelong learning process.
UTcme is committed to providing innovative educational activities to help physicians and other health professionals maintain their commitment to lifelong learning. The UTcme program is a partnership of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston.
The UTMB Office of Continuing Education oversees all continuing medical education (CME) activities offered by UTcme. The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. UTMB has been continuously accredited by the ACCME since 1972.
UTcme and the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) Office of Continuing Education are committed to providing lifelong learning opportunities that enhance the clinical competence and professional development of physicians and other health care professionals. To carry out this goal, UTcme sponsors a wide range of continuing educational activities:
As an ACCME-accredited organization, UTMB can designate a continuing medical education activity for AMA PRA category 1 credit. Additionally, we can provide other types of continuing education credit for nurses and other health professionals via specialty societies such as the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Support Services The UTMB Office of Continuing Education also can provide various support services, including event planning and management, selection of faculty speakers, and advance consultation to enable compliance with accreditation guidelines.
UTcme is a collaborative program of the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. With offices in Houston and Galveston, UTcme is one of the largest providers of continuing medical education in Texas.
